Waazzzuuuppp ... on local highways

By ZAM KARIM

KUALA LUMPUR: Celcom (M) Bhd and Mastro Sdn Bhd (Mobile Advertising Services For Transport Operations) have launched "Wazzup Highway," an SMS (short message service) and GPRS (General Packet Radio Service) programme for Transnasional bus commuters.

The programme would allow commuters to download a variety of "data infotainment" services via the Celcom network.

This would keep them occupied during those long journeys, said Zubir A. Rasid, senior vice-president of Celcom's customer management group and mobile data.

Mastro has been given exclusive rights to manage, sell and maintain all advertising and advertising-related activities for Nadicorp Holdings Transport companies.

Nadicorp (www.nadi.com.my) operates Transnasional’s stage bus operations and intercity express services.

Transnasional has a fleet of more than 1,200 buses covering 234 routes throughout Peninsular Malaysia, with some 5,200 trips taken daily.

This translates to around 55 million passengers annually, making it the largest operator of public bus transportation in Malaysia, claimed Nadicorp.

Under the partnership agreement with Celcom, 402 Transnasional's buses in 120 long-haul routes have already been equipped with advertisements detailing the Wazzup Highway programme.

Celcom users travelling on these buses will be able to access services such as ringtones, wallpapers, games, chat, jokes, Info Solat (prayer times) and others, with fees ranging from 50sen to RM3 per message or download.

The Wazzup Highway programme will end next February.
