Dell embraces AMD

Fans of AMD processors can now add Dell to their list of favourite PC makers as the Round Rock, Texas-based company is now offering Sempron and Athlon chips in its Dimension desktop PC line.

The new Dell E521 and C521 models can be equipped with processors from AMD's Sempron, Athlon 64 and Athlon 64 X2 range.

Both models come preinstalled with Windows XP Home Edition, a 80GB hard disk, integrated nVidia GeForce 6150 LE graphics card and 7.1-channel audio.

The basic configuration E521 comes with an AMD Athlon 64 3500+ processor, 512MB DDR2 RAM, a DVD combo drive and a free 17in LCD monitor.

The C521 has a slimmer casing measuring 401 x 114 x 361mm, which is about half the size of the E521.

The basic configuration C521 comes with an AMD Sempron 3400+ processor, 256MB DDR2 SDRAM, 16x DVD-ROM drive and a free 17in CRT monitor.

As usual, both models can be customised to suit a user’s specific needs.
