Motorola bags best 3G handset award

THE Motorola Razr V3x won the best 3GSM handset award at the 2006 GSMA (Global Systems for Mobile Communications Association) Awards held in Barcelona last week.

Ron Garriques, president Motorola mobile devices, said the Razr V3x epitomises everything Motorola hoped for.

“I am thrilled to accept this esteemed award on behalf of everyone involved in the design and development of this great handset,” he said, when accepting the award last week.

“It truly is a great day for the brand,” he added. This is the first time that Motorola has won the award.

The Razr V3x is an ultra-slim 3G clamshell phone featuring a range of multimedia tools, including a 2-megapixel camera, real-time two-way video calling, progressive downloading and 3D graphics, the company said.

The award for the best GSM handset or device went to the Nokia 8800.

The 2006 Awards winners were chosen after a two-phase judging process conducted by an international panel of independent industry and subject matter experts, drawn from the academic, analyst, media and entertainment communities.
