Seven from Canon

CANON Malaysia recently rolled out seven new digital cameras under its Ixus and PowerShot brand names.

The newly launched 6-megapixel Ixus 65 and 60 come equipped with the company's Digic II imaging processor for faster start up and response time, as well as iSAPS (Intelligent Scene Analysis based on Photographic Space) technology that Canon claims allow the cameras to produce brighter, sharper images.

Other features include widescreen playback, 30fps (frames per second) video recording, 16 shooting modes and 12 built-in photo effects.

The Ixus cameras also support direct printing via the Canon Direct Print, Bubble Jet Direct and PictBridge standards.

The Ixus 60 is priced at RM1,299 while the Ixus 65 goes for RM1,499.

The Ixus 65 comes with extra options including a Touch Control Dial to easily access key functions and scroll through images, and a larger 3in TFT LCD screen.

PowerShot entries

According to Canon, the five new PowerShot models (A700, A540, A530, A430 and A420) offer more user-friendly and powerful features to meet the needs of serious photo enthusiasts.

The 6-megapixel, 6x optical zoom A700 is the series' flagship model.

Just like its Ixus siblings, the A700 sports the Digic II processor and iSAPS technology.

Unlike most compact digicams, this model offers a real-image optical viewfinder and a 2.5in TFT LCD for composing images, Canon said. It is priced at RM1,199.

The 6-megapixel A540 (RM999) and 5-megapixel A530 (RM799) PowerShots are also equipped with the Digic II processor. The A540 comes with underwater photo effects to boost images that are captured underwater.

Rounding up the bunch are the 4-megapixel A430 and A420 models, which are priced at RM599 and RM499 respectively. – ZAM KARIM
