Agilent to hire more engineers in Penang
By NIK KHUSAIRI IBRAHIM
PENANG: Agilent Technologies is recruiting more engineers for its Penang operations this year to remain in the forefront as the technology leader in communications, electronics, life sciences and chemical analysis.
President and chief executive officer Datuk William P. Sullivan said the world premier measurement company would continue expanding its workforce as human capital was the most important aspect of business.
"At the moment we are not going to announce how many new engineers we plan to hire this year," he said, adding that currently a third of the 3,000 workforce in Penang were engineers.
Sullivan was speaking at a media briefing on human capital development at the plant's newly completed building housing a design centre equipped with state-of-the-art facilities.
On the impact of free trade agreements on operations here, he said such agreements would benefit competitive companies like Agilent.

"We will send them for specialised training to make sure they are competent in carrying out testing works for electronic, communications, life sciences and chemical analysis tools," he said, adding that the company hired 300 engineers last year.
Gooi said Agilent focused on enhancing research and development (R&D) capabilities as well as marketing and business management. It also collaborated with local universities on R&D work.
