NSTP, Ahirudin won't publish more articles
KUALA LUMPUR: The New Straits Times Press (M) Bhd (NSTP) and blogger Ahirudin Attan have agreed not to publish any more articles or comments on the libel suit between them.
The consent judgment recorded yesterday by High Court Justice Hishamuddin Yunus does not affect those posted earlier as no interim orders were issued against Ahirudin.
Ahirudin, who is being sued for 48 articles posted on his blog Rocky's Bru, had applied to strike out the libel suit by the NSTP, its deputy chairman Datuk Kalimullah Masheerul Hassan, group editor-in-chief Datuk Hishamuddin Aun, chief executive officer Datuk Syed Faisal Syed A.R. Albar and former group editor Brenden John a/l John Pereira.
Ahirudin, a former editor of The Malay Mail and Sunday Mail, which are part of NSTP, claimed that the statement of claims supporting the suit was "fatally deficient".
Justice Hishamuddin fixed Feb 22 to hear the application.
The plaintiffs, except for Syed Faisal, had also sued another blogger Jeff Ooi over 13 articles posted on Ooi's blog Screenshots. They obtained an ex-parte injunction against Ooi on Jan 11, compelling him to remove allegedly defamatory postings on Screenshots.
The case is scheduled before High Court Justice Abdul Malik Ishak today for hearing of the plaintiffs' application for an inter-parte injunction against Ooi.
Counsel Malik Imtiaz Sarwar said he had filed an application on Friday to strike out the suit. He filed an application yesterday to set aside the ex-parte injunction order.
