Museums Dept to track artifacts with RFID

KUALA LUMPUR: The National Museum will soon become one of the first museums in South-East Asia to improve the management and tracking of its collection of artifacts using radio frequency identification (RFID) technology.

The project began in December and is expected to be completed by April, according to CBS Technology.

Some 1,000 artifacts, comprising a portion of the National Museum's collection, are to be tagged to facilitate the museum's work processes and help preserve the nation's cultural history.

The Department of Museums Malaysia will deploy CBS Technology Bhd's Solmate Artifact Management and Tracking System (EAMS), a locally-developed solution to be implemented by reseller Garisan Aspirasi Sdn Bhd.
