MasterCard offers antifraud classes

KUALA LUMPUR: MasterCard Worldwide Inc has introduced a risk-management diploma course across Asia-Pacific to help combat payment card fraud.

The credit card company hopes to train security professionals in the payment sector to recognise and stop emerging types of fraud.

Participants gain first-hand knowledge from security experts on how to spot unusual activity, mitigate fraud, and collaborate with law enforcement professionals.

"Even though credit card fraud is at a historical low.

We can drive this even lower," said MasterCard senior business leader and regional head of security and risk services, Barry Wong.

MasterCard declined to reveal specific numbers but it is believed that credit card fraud reduction amounts to as much as 90% over the past four years since EMV- (Europay-MasterCard-Visa) compliant cards were introduced in Malaysia.

The company is offering the course to security professionals who have at least three years' experience.

The course consists of five modules, and each module costs US$850 (RM2,913).

Course material will range from a basic understanding of fraud and risk management to specific areas such as e-commerce risk management, Personal Identification Number security & risk management, security management, and enterprise risk management.

The diploma programme was developed in collaboration with Management Development Partnership — a collaborative partner of Oxford Brookes Business School.
