Be the Envy of others
Envy 13 KUALA LUMPUR: Hewlett-Packard’s new series of ultra-thin premium notebooks is designed to make everyone “Envy” the users.
The HP Envy 13 and Envy 15 models have brushed aluminium and magnesium shells, as well as a multi-touch touchpad each.
HP has added distinctive touches to the sleek machines, such as metal etchings on the palm rest and a built-in Beats by Dr Dre audio system.
The inclusion of HP’s quick-boot utility, QuickWeb, allows users to access their media, chat and even browse online without having to boot up the operating system.
The Envy 13 is only 0.8in thick and ships with a 13.1in display that boasts 410nit of brightness, which is almost twice as bright as other notebook displays in its class, said HP.
Plus, the display also offers an up to 82% colour gamut (versus the standard 45%-60%), making movies and photos look crisper and more vivid, even in high ambient light conditions, it said.
An entry-level Envy 13 comes with an Intel Core 2 Duo 1.8GHz processor, up to 5GB RAM, a 250GB hard drive, a screen display with 8ms response time, and an ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4330 graphics card. Pricing starts from RM7,999.
The other one
HP’s higher-end Envy 15 comes with a 15.6in LED backlit display and runs on the latest Intel Core i7 processor.
Envy 15 Also, it ships with up to 16GB of DDR3 memory, an ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4830 graphics card with 1GB memory, and up to 320GB of dual solid-state drives (SSD) in a RAID-0 configuration.
The price for this notebook starts from RM8,999.
HP also announced that more Minis — the company’s netbook lineup — would be arriving on our shores soon.
The first two models that landed here recently are the Mini 311 and Special Edition Mini 110 by Studio Tord Boontje, a famous Dutch industrial designer.
The Mini 311 ships with nVidia’s Ion platform which enables it to deliver smooth high-definition video playback, among other capabilities.
Powered by an Intel Atom N270 processor, the netbook comes with a 11.6in LCD monitor, 92% full-size keyboard and a six-cell battery promising up to seven hours of continuous usage.
Special Edition Mini 110 by Studio Tord Boontje Going Dutch
The Tord Boontje-designed Mini 110 comes in the wake of an earlier HP netbook designed by Vivienne Tam, as the company continues with its series of special edition PCs.
Boontje decided on a floral 3D imprint to jazz up the looks of the Mini 110. Underneath that is an Intel Atom Processor N270, 1GB of DDR2 memory, a 160GB hard disk and a webcam.
The Mini 311 is priced at RM1,799 while the special edition Mini 110 is RM1,599.
