A projector in your pocket

THE latest BenQ GP1 LED projector is so small and portable you can carry it in your cargo pants pocket.

Measuring just 136 x 54 x 120mm in dimension, the palm-size model makes a compelling case for boardroom, living room, games room or campsite use. It weighs about 640g.

While its size and weight are impressive, it also has LED lights with 100 lumens brightness. Rather than using just one array of LED lights as its light source, it has three LED arrays, one for each colour — red, green and blue — to deliver clear, bright and vivid images.

It projects images from 15in up to 80in at up to 858 x 600-pixel resolution.

There are other advantages for using LED — the unit doesn’t heat up like standard projectors while in operation and the LED lights last longer, providing up to 20,000 hours of life.

LED lights are highly durable, they don’t decrease in brightness over time or have colour-fading issue, according to BenQ.

The mini projector also has an integrated USB port and the ability to decode video and audio streams on the fly without requiring a PC.

Users can hook up a variety of devices such as a thumbdrive, a laptop, a gaming console, a DVD player, a camcorder, a digital camera and even an iPod or iPhone (with an optional docking station) to view supported files.

The projector supports various media formats such as JPEG, GIF, BMP and TIFF images, as well as MPEG1 and MJPEG videos. GP1 also features an intuitive menu system, a 3.5mm stereo jack, 2,000:1 contrast ratio, a 2-watt built-in speaker and automatic keystone correction.

Also, its colour correction technology offers a selection of five different wall colours to meet the projection demands of various surfaces, even blackboards.

The GP1 retails for RM1,999. — ZAM KARIM
