Apple updates its core products
27in iMac PETALING JAYA: Apple has announced a slew of updates to its line of iMac desktops and Macbook laptops, featuring bigger and better machines.
The highlight of Apple’s fall update is the 27in iMac which features an LED-backlit display with a 2,560 x 1,440-pixel resolution. It is supposed to have 60% more pixels than the older 24in model.
The 27in iMac will be powered by a 3.06GHz Intel Core 2 Duo processor as well as various Core i5 and i7 quad-core processors. The iMacs will also feature 4GB RAM that’s expandable up to 16GB.
The computers also include an improved graphics chip in the form of an ATI Radeon HD 4670 or 4850.
Other features include a 1TB hard drive, SD card slot, and built-in stereo speakers and microphones.
The iMacs will come standard with a wireless keyboard and Magic Mouse. The Magic Mouse uses multi-touch technology similar to the one featured on the iPhone and iPod touch.
The entire top of the device is a seamless multi-touch surface that supports advance finger gestures making it easy to scroll long documents or pan across images.
The Magic Mouse is powered by two AA batteries and works from up to 10m away.
Macbook Meanwhile, Apple’s updated Macbook features a redesigned unibody frame made of polycarbonate and it weighs just 2.13kg.
The Macbook also has an LED-backlit display and a multi-touch glass trackpad for easy navigation.
Prices for the 27in iMacs start at RM5,999 and the Macbook costs RM3,599. Apple’s Magic Mouse is sold separately for RM229. — CHONG JINN XIUNG
