NEC unveils latest IP telephony server

PETALING JAYA: NEC Corp Malaysia has unveiled its latest IP telephony server, the Univerge SV8500, for various industries, including hospitality, education, finance, enterprise and public sector.

“The SV8500 is an advanced application server that supports voice, unified communications and mobility solutions for (up to) tens of thousands of users,” said Daisaku Takeuchi, managing director of NEC Corp Malaysia.

It ensures improved business continuity through features such as advanced fault diagnosis, error-correcting memory and component redundancy.

The other features of the server include Internet Protocol fail-over for stations and trunking, power failure transfer, and call routing for self-healing networks.

With all these features in place, the vendor said, businesses are assured of higher service availability and operational continuity.

NEC said the SV8500 provides support for open-standards of integrating communications features into business process applications.

Some of these standards and devices include Session Initiation Protocol-enabled devices, Java and XML, and the Univerge OW5000 — an integration platform for unified communications solutions such as Microsoft Office Communications Server and IBM Lotus Sametime.

Can be linked

The SV8500 can also be networked with other NEC products, including the NEAX 2000, SV8100 and SV8300, to provide the user with a broad range of server options that can address the many needs of a company network.

It also supports green initiatives — the product is made from recyclable materials and components, as well as environmentally-safe chemicals. Also, lead and mercury use have been done away with in the process of making its circuit boards.

On another matter, the company announced that it has unified its telecommunications solutions businesses under one roof with NEC Infrontia Asia Pacific (NECIAP) coming under the telco solutions business arm at NEC Corp Malaysia.

Before the integration, NEC Corp Malaysia focused on the high-end range of telecommunications solutions while NECIAP handled the sales and marketing of the basic and mid-range solutions and products.

The company believes the integration will result in a stronger and more cohesive sales force that specialises in providing the entire range of telecommunications solutions and communications systems.
