Two times lucky
PETALING JAYA: Joey Lim did it again. The 21-year-old queued up for a few days to be the first to snag the slimmer and lighter PlayStation3 Slim gaming console.
Lim, who also was the first person to purchase a PlayStation3 console when it was first launched here last year, started lining up for three days before the official launch on last Saturday.
Her patience was rewarded with a RM1,000 voucher. Unfortunately, we didn’t get to talk to her as she probably couldn’t wait to start playing PS3 games.
Another PS3 fan, Azidi Imsail, 24, waited overnight in line to get the console because the new model is priced cheaper and he wanted to play the exclusive PS3 title, Uncharted 2: Among Thieves.
He was just one of the hundred eager fans who waited outside the 1 Utama shopping centre to purchase the PlayStation3 Slim gaming console and PSP Go handheld gaming system.
The PlayStation3 Slim is about two thirds the size of the older model and comes with a larger 120GB hard drive. The console, which mainly features the same functions as the original model, includes a Blu-ray player for watching high definition movies.
The console also doubles up as a media centre for listening to music, viewing images and surfing online with its built in web browser.
Meanwhile, the PSP Go is a smaller and lighter model with an improved 3.8in screen with a wider colour gamut.
Aside from the aesthetic changes, the PSP Go forgoes the UMD drive in favour of a 16GB of Flash memory module for storing games and other media.
It also features Bluetooth 2.0 so users can connect wireless headsets and even a Sixaxis or Dual Shock 3 PlayStation3 controller for playing games.
PSP games can be purchased and downloaded from the PlayStation Store either via credit card or PSN prepaid cards.
The PlayStation3 Slim and PSP go retail for RM1,299 and RM1,099 respectively. — CHONG JINN XIUNG
