Business WLANs the easy way

KUALA LUMPUR: Setting up a local area network (LAN) for a business just got easier, thanks to a new product from local company ENT Quest.

Right out of the box, its Axia SOHO HSDPA Communications Server takes over the duties of a wireless broadband router and IP-PBX phone system. GSM sim card,” said Muhammad Fadhlullah Ishak, product manager at ENT Quest’s marketing arm, Fifth Media Sdn Bhd. “Once all that is supplied, you have a wireless LAN for your business needs.”

ENT Quest was demonstrating its product at the MSC Malaysia Great ICT Sale here.

The product is a wireless access point that can provide HSDPA broadband speeds of up to 7.2Mbps (megabits per second) to about 12 computers in a wireless LAN environment.

Using the all-in-one router, which retails at RM3,688, can save companies up to 20% in the cost of setting up a typical WLAN, said Muhammad Fadhlullah.

There is another

Another flagship product of this company is a smartphone with MyKad reading capabilities. Known as the A306, the smartphone is a product of one-and-a-half years R&D in ENT Quest labs.

Muhammad Fadhlullah said the A306 is specially made for users who need to access data on the chip-based national identity card.

“Users having roadshows, for example, can use it to capture the contact information of buyers who are interested in their products,” he said.

In the past, businesses had to resort to bulky all-in-one printers, moving these from one location to the next, to capture the same data and then fill up paper forms for records purposes.

Compared to those devices, the A306 is much lighter at 195g. It is priced at RM1,888.

Fifth Media is having a promotion on the A306 during the sale — there is a RM500 rebate for every 10-unit purchase of the device.
