Lenovo keeps it thin and sturdy

PETALING JAYA: LENOVO recently announced its latest laptop for business users, the ThinkPad T400s, which the company claimed offers exciting features and ease of use, thus ensuring that users have better computing experience.

For a start, the T400s is only 21.1mm thin and weighs only 1.77kg with the battery. It was possible to achieve the thin frame because the T400s comes with a thin 14.1in LED screen, solid state drive storage and the second generation Top Cover Roll Cage technology, which Lenovo first introduced in the ThinkPad X300 laptop.

The roll cage is built using the same reinforced carbon fibre that is used in bicycle frames and airplanes. It helps keep the laptop light yet sturdy, the company said.

With this design, the T400s weighs nearly 20% less than its predecessor.

Another interesting fact that Lenovo found out when designing the T400s is that the average user hits the Delete and the Escape key 700 times each, in a week. So to help improve the typing experience, Lenovo made these buttons larger.

For more convenience, Lenovo added the ability to power on the laptop with just the swipe of a finger on the fingerprint reader. And, if for some reason, the fingerprint reader does not work, users can use the power button to boot the laptop.

Also Lenovo has tightened the spaces between the keys to help avoid food crumbs from falling below the keyboard. Not only does the T400s comes with a larger touchpad, it has a new textured surface that gives the user a better feel of the trackpad.

Other notable features include a 2-megapixel camera, a toggle switch at the top of the keyboard to increase and decrease volume, separate speaker and mute buttons with LED lights to indicate which button is on.

The laptop comes with a choice of Intel 2.53GHz Core 2 Duo processor, solid state drive storage up to 128GB or 250GB hard drive, 9.5mm slim DVD burner or Blu-ray player.

As one would expect, the laptop also has Ethernet, WiFi, Bluetooth, Express Card slot and a 5-in-1 multimedia card reader.

Also available are three docking stations, namely the ThinkPad Port Replicator Series 3, ThinkPad Mini-Dock Series 3 and ThinkPad Mini Dock Plus Series 3.

Pricing for the T400s starts at RM7,399 while the Port Replicator Series 3 is retailing at RM369. The Mini-Dock Series 3 and the Mini Dock Plus Series 3 are RM549.
