SAP picks Malaysia for telesales hub
Multinational business-software giant SAP AG has inked an agreement with IT services company Datacom Sdn Bhd to establish a callcentre in Kuala Lumpur to generate business leads in the region.
SAP ended contracts with vendors in nine countries in order to consolidate its telesales callcentre here and expects to generate about 200mil euros (RM1bil) in sales.
“We have always looked at low-cost locations, such as India and China, to promote our business,” said the vice-president of demand generation hub for SAP Asia Pacific & Japan, Jonathan Allen.
“This has proven to be ineffective and we chose to team up with Datacom in Malaysia because of this country’s strategic location, multiple-language proficiency, and the sophistication of its market.”
As part of the agreement, Datacom will manage inbound and outbound demand generation services, such as telemarketing, lead generation, and database optimisation out of its Kuala Lumpur office.
The deal was struck with assistance from the Multimedia Development Corp (MDeC) — guardian of the MSC Malaysia initiative — and is designed to provide a quality callcentre in a strategic part of the world.
Saifol Bahri Mohamad Shamlan, vice-president of MDeC’s industry development division, welcomed the agreement.
“We are happy that more and more companies are recognising the unique value proposition that we are able to offer,” said Saifol.
“Malaysia’s ability to retain its position as the third most-preferred location (behind India and China) for global services, according to the A.T. Kearney’s Global Services Location Index, is proof our capabilities.”
