Asus dances with AMD
K50AB ASUS has begun shipping its first two AMD-based notebooks, the K40AB and K50AB, which are powered by the AMD Athlon X2 dual-core QL64 processor (2.1GHz).
Sold under the K Series Domino Collection family, both models offer identical specifications.
The only exception is the screen size — the K40AB has a 14in screen while the K50AB sports a 15.6in display.
Under the hood, users will find a 250GB hard disk, 4GB DDR2 SDRAM and an ATI Mobility Radeon HD4570 GPU with 512MB DDR2 VRAM.
Other features include WiFi connectivity, an integrated 1.3-megapixel webcam, DVD burner and an 8-in-1 card reader.
The K series comes with the Asus Super Hybrid Engine, which features the Power4 Gear Hybrid application for more efficient energy conservation that provides up to four hours of battery life.
According to the company, the application intelligently optimises system performance and power efficiency according to the user’s preferences in relation to the specific tasks that they need to perform.
Without it, the battery life would only last between two to three hours, Asus said. Prices for the notebooks start from RM1,999. — ZAM KARIM
