Nikon parades new cameras
S1000pj PETALING JAYA: Nikon has just announced their new lineup of cameras for the year, covering everything from the amateur to the advanced photographer with a range of compacts and DSLRs.
The most interesting of the new cameras is the Coolpix S1000pj, which has a projector built into the body of the camera, allowing the user to project images and video on a wall up to 3.4ft in size.
The 12.1megapixel S1000pj comes with a 5x optical zoom lens starting with an equivalent 28mm wideangle, a 2.7in LCD screen and optical image stabilisation.
S70 Another first for a Nikon is the S70, a 12.1megapixel shooter with a 5x optical zoom starting at 28mm as well — what’s new is that the Coolpix S70 has a large 3.5in OLED (organic light-emitting diode) screen which boasts better colour, contrast and viewing angles compared with LCD screens.
The S70’s interface is also touch-driven and supports multitouch features, such as “pinch in and pinch out” to zoom in and out of photos.
For those who require speed, there’s the Coolpix S640, a 12.2-megapixel model with the same 5x optical zoom lens but with fast startup times and an ultra-fast autofocus that Nikon claims rivals that of their high-end DSLR systems.
S640 Talking about DSLRs, the company also launched its D3000 and D300s DSLRs.
The D3000 is a consumer-oriented budget DSLR and comes with a 10.2-megapixel image sensor, 3in LCD screen, 11 autofocus points, 3-frames-per-second maximum continuous shooting, and a new Guide Mode which is meant to walk the inexperienced user through the various settings.
The D3000 however, lacks video recording, which is increasingly becoming a common feature in DSLRs.
D300s Moving a little up the DSLR line is the 12.3-megapixel D300s, an update to Nikon’s popular D300, which now adds a dual-card SDHC and CompactFlash slot, faster 7-frames-per-second shooting and 720p video recording to the already impressive list of features in the original D300.
As for prices, the Coolpix S1000pj has a recommended retail price of RM1,498, while the Coolpix S70 and S640 is RM1,298 and RM1,188 respectively.
On the DSLR front, the D3000 lists for RM2,288 with 18-55mm f/3.5-f/5.6 VR kit lens, while the D300s has a recommended retail price of RM6,698 for the body alone.
