Samsung i8910 gets in on the HD game

PETALING JAYA: User looking to add more detail to their video recordings should take a look at the new Samsung i8910 HD camera phone, which allows them to shoot videos in high definition.

The 8-megapixel shooter captures videos at 720p at up to 30 frames per second. Users can even do slow motion and time-lapse recordings with it.

The phone’s still image mode has an autofocus feature as well as LED flash, face detection, smile shot and image stabiliser options.

With the built-in GPS and A-GPS in operation, they can even “geotag” their images to remind them of the spot where they took that particular photo.

There is also a secondary CIF camera located at the front for video calls.

The i8910 is powered by the Symbian S60 5th edition operating system running on an ARM Cortex A8 600MHz processor and a dedicated PowerVR SGX graphics chip for smoother operation.

It has a huge 3.7in 16-million colours AMOLED touchscreen with a 640 x 360-pixel resolution. Its surface is scratch-resistant too, Samsung claimed.

But that’s not all, this HSDPA phone is also equipped with everything that the company can possibly shoehorn in a mobile phone.

These include DNSe (Digital Natural Sound Engine) audio technology, TV-out, FM radio with RDS, WiFi, Bluetooth and full Flash support in the web browser.

Plenty of multimedia formats are also supported, including AVI, DiVX, XviD and WMV for videos as well as MP3, WMA, WAV and AAC for audio files.

Also available are a built-in accelerometer for automatic screen rotation, turn-to-mute and motion-based gaming as well as a proximity sensor to turn off touch access when making calls.

The i8910 also includes a surprise additional feature — a built-in magnetometer to assist the phone’s digital compass gets the right bearing.

The phone is available in either 8GB (RM2,599) or 16GB (RM2,799) capacities, which users can expand further via a microSD slot.
